Show Notes

Event Date: January 15, 2020

The beliefs and doctrines of the Christian faith did not come into being all at once, they developed through the history of the church. Do you know why we believe some of the things that we do? Would you be interested in some of the history that has shaped our theology? In this SPdLU series, we'll examine the stories behind the belief statements of the church from the very earliest days up to the present and seek to understand why we believe what we do.  Here are the series topics:

January 8: “The Bible Says” Our beliefs start with the Bible. How do we know the best way to understand and interpret the Bible so that it can shape our beliefs?

January 15: “This We Believe” The early church put words to the beliefs of the church. What did they say?

January 22: “A Creed for the Ages–Part 1” The Apostles’ Creed is a lasting statement of Christian belief. For three weeks we will study what this Creed says about what we believe.
January 29: “A Creed for the Ages–Part 2”

February 5: “A Creed for the Ages–Part 3”

February 12: “Re-forming What We Believe” The Reformation brought about big changes in what we believe. What were they?

February 19: "Baptist Affirmations of Faith" Baptist beliefs are expressed in Affirmations of Faith. What do these documents say about what we believe today?
